Weather has changed our plans so hopefully all of you had success with covering your plants or moving them in.
Something's I can do because I am a grower is grow new crops to be planted in your gardens later. I am working on the 2nd crop of cauliflower, and all the colored peppers are growing. Add to that some more different kinds of tomatoes so we are good for those in a couple of weeks. The ones that are helping me transplant just can't get over how the miracle in the greenhouse works and in one week how that plants will grow. We have many vine plants started as in zucchini, squash, cucumbers which I don't want you to plant till June 1. These plants don't like cool nights and you know what we are having now is classified cold nights. If you are patient and plant when the soil and the air temperature is good you will have a successful garden.
I am starting a third sowing of more tomatoes and peppers to make sure that we get you covered for the June plantings. Don't worry we have lots of tomatoes and peppers are good. All the cool weather plants such as cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts are ready to go into your garden. So for the ones that need to plant yet we have you covered. We are out of seed potatoes and onion sets we just have the red sets. Asparagus crowns are here, and out of strawberries. We have had two deliveries of perennials, so a nice selection is here.
We are growing more perennials for your summer planting. I just ordered some more plugs to plant more annuals. So we are a growing greenhouse. Adding new things every week. We want to keep ourselves in plants for your gardening needs.
We have the potting mix in two sizes 25 lbs and 3.5 cu feet. Our baskets are $10, $12. Geraniums are blooming, many of the bedding plants are colorful and the annuals pots are full and ready to be planted in your garden.
I know it was a cold night and hopefully all of you had plants moved or covered to protect from frost. You need to remove the blankets today to let them dry out and recover them for the next time of frost. The temperature looks warmer for tonight, Sunday and Monday night but still when it is predicted to be in the 30's I would still stay on the side of caution and cover or keep inside. I know you are all saying why this cold weather but we can have frost till May 15th and this has happened every year more than not. After the 15th, then the frost scare should be over with. There is plenty of time to plant the garden, make your containers and work in your flower beds. I get it, we are so anxious to be outside and do something in our area. Gardening is very good for our well being. So just have to watch the weather because so much in the growing is in that weather. I am open today from 9-6. Tomorrow from 11-4. We have the wagons ( racks on wheels) so with Larry's help we can get them all under cover in the other greenhouse. We will be putting them away for a few nights.
We are all anxious to work outside, do something different and watch the color come into our lives. I get it. I have been planting since January and it gives me lots of peace and joy. I just wanted you to know what to watch for with the temperature. This year is a different year than we have ever experience and being home more you have time and want to garden. I get it and glad to help you with your gardening needs. I have been doing this for 31 years growing plants for you. I can't believe that but I have. With my two new knees it is easier then it has been for several years. We will do curb side pickup. But you need to give me 24 hours to pull the order. Most of the time I am here by myself, so I can get the order together just need some time. Call me at Becky's Greenhouse 641-794-3337 for any questions.
