image from Seattleurbanfamco.com Sorry I haven’t posted since Tuesday. You all know what we are doing in the greenhouse. Full production with planting. There are 4 of us planting and it is going well. We will be open soon. I can get a little stressed out when I think about how fast the time is going.
Good Friday, so potatoes go in? Here is what I am going to say to you. How about planting potatoes on Good Friday? I need to pick up my seed potatoes and get them into the ground on Good Friday for a good crop just like my mother and grandmother did. I would say this about that answer. Easter to me is early. It is April 9th, so that makes Good Friday April 7th. Old wives’ tale, and our parents and Grandparents planted potatoes on Good Friday. Will April 7th meet these requirements? 2 to 4 weeks before our last frost date, which is May 15, Soil temperature is at least 55 degrees The soil should not be so wet that it sticks together and is hard to work with. I will let you decide when to plant your potatoes. Larry and I want to wish all of you a Blessed Easter weekend. This is what it is all about THE CROSS. Be safe. Till next time this is Becky Litterer, Becky’s Greenhouse, Dougherty, Iowa beckmall@netins.net 641-794-3337 cell 641-903-9365
