GOOD MORNING, Happy NEW YEAR, now get used to writing 2025.  I can’t believe it.  Here we go.  The weather has been damp, cloudy, and a bit warm.  BUT it is going to change.  20F( -7C) at 8:30 AM, high of 29F( -2C) low tonight of 10F( -12C.)  flurries for today but the snow is going to be south of us.  Stay warm, stay safe.
Australia weather for Jan 3rd, 2025, which is their time right now.  Today they will have 78F(26C) but extreme heat alert is effect for the weekend.  98F (37 C).   Stay cool, stay safe.

This time of year, is a little harder to find and write about gardening but today with the New Year just happening I found this article about 4 Garden Glorifying resolutions for 2025.  I found this article in Gardener’s Supply Company email.

Happy New Year, gardener!  We’ve woven our winter reflections into commitments to carry into the planting season.  We hope the 4 resolutions below take root in your garden, too.
  1. Curate your calm Let’s be frank: there are plenty of reasons to feel at least a little bit anxious right now given everything going on in the world and our packed daily schedules.  As gardeners, however, we’re primed to understand that what you focus on grows.  So, let’s not be swept away in a sea of worry, but rather cultivate our own calm.  Our gardens offer solace, refuge, and sanctuary.  They provide the perfect excuse for shaking off other obligations and reveling in the outdoors.  So, this year, reclaim time that you would’ve spent worrying.  Instead, tend your favorite plants, use decor and structures to add character, and bask in the glory of making your unique garden paradise even more perfect.
  2. Return to the Earth Our aforementioned busy schedules seem to pull us in all different directions.  There are bills to pay, people to see, and errands to run.  There are calendars and screens and productivity tools that demand more and more of our attention.  This year, take back ownership of your time, peel off the grip of your devices and reconnect with the Earth.  A day working in the soil is a day well spent; what could possibly be more splendid than the fresh air, exercise, sensory delights, nature, nourishing food and beautiful flowers to be had?  Indeed, making checking in with you soil a regular part of your routine, feed it, mulch it, keep it healthy and your own physical and mental wellbeing is sure to fool suit.  Your care in the garden will help keep you grounded outside of it.
  3. Nurture Your Nature This resolution has a double meaning because the Earth and its flora and fauna bring so much richness, so much joy and discovery and meaning and nourishment to our lives, we must of course serve as good stewards to her.  So, keep your soil healthy, yes, but also plant native species, protect pollinators, embrace organic practices, consider rewilding swaths of lawn and support eco-minded organizations.  Nurture your personal nature as well. Just as plants need the right resources and supports in your life: are they serving you? Do they need some tweaking?  Celebrate your unique selfhood both in and beyond the garden; rather than trying to follow someone else’s vision, let your authenticity shine through.
  4. Process Your Plenty Waste not, want not!  May this be the year we use everything we grow.  Tend and harvest, but also cook, dry, freeze, infuse and otherwise preserve.  Invite family and friends to join in the processing to cultivate connection.  Save seeds and tur debris and scraps into compost.  Finally, remember to pause occasionally, to stop and take it all in.  Making intentional time to enjoy and mentally process the beauty and bounty of the garden fosters a greater sense of appreciation, gratitude, marvel and wellness that fills us up and radiates into the community.  Together we can harness the power of gardening to truly make our world a better place.  HAPPY GROWING in 2025
